Product Description
As the carbon content increases, the cast steel rolls can have hypoeutectoid, eutectoid or hypereutectoid structures, and their hardness increases accordingly, but the toughness and thermal crack resistance obviously decrease gradually. Cast steel rolls with eutectoid composition have better comprehensive properties of strength and toughness and are widely used in China. Alloying elements can further improve the performance of cast steel rolls. Commonly used alloying elements are chromium, molybdenum, nickel, vanadium, niobium, etc. Ordinary alloy cast steel rolls with eutectoid composition are mostly used in large-scale roughing, blanking, and rough rolling stands with large rolling loads and thermal loads, as well as back-up rolls in steel plate and cold and hot strip rolling mills. Hypereutectoid ordinary alloy cast steel rolls are mostly used in rough rolling and intermediate rolling stands of steel sections with small rolling loads.
Cast steel rolls are cheaper to manufacture than forged steel rolls. When the heat treatment system is the same, the wear resistance of cast steel rolls is better than that of forged steel rolls of the same composition, but the toughness is lower. The composite casting method can significantly improve the strength and toughness of the cast steel backup roll core and roll neck. The production of cast steel rolls includes smelting, casting, heat treatment, machining and testing.
